VRdirect – No-Code Virtual Reality Software for Enterprises
The Munich-based tech company VRdirect (www.vrdirect.com) offers an enterprise-grade, no-code Virtual Reality solution that enables large companies to easily create, manage, and share immersive VR content for internal training, communication, as well as external sales, marketing, and customer support applications. VRdirect’s solution allows seamless sharing and consumption of VR content across different environments and devices, making it easier for businesses to take advantage of the Metaverse without dealing with fragmented and incompatible hardware and ecosystems.

My Role at VRdirect GmbH
Over the past five years, I worked as a Multimedia and Graphic Designer at VRdirect, taking full responsibility for all graphic design tasks within the startup’s dynamic environment. As an all-round designer, I handled everything from conceptualization to execution, creating innovative print and online materials that effectively marketed and strengthened the VRdirect platform. This holistic approach allowed me to ensure a cohesive, engaging, and visually consistent brand presence across all channels.

My Highlights at VRdirect

1. Creation of the VRXF Name for the VRXF Technology
I developed the name VRXF (Virtual Reality eXchange Format) for the groundbreaking VRXF technology, which sets new standards in the VR industry. This technology simplifies the creation and exchange of VR projects across different devices such as VR headsets, smartphones, tablets, and web browsers.

The name was created during an internal competition where the team was asked to submit ideas for a new file extension. After extensive research and creative wordplay, I won the competition with VRXF. In addition to the name, I designed the icons and visual elements for marketing this technology and created an explainer video on how it works.

More information on the VRXF technology can be found here and here.

2. Evolution of VRdirect’s Corporate Identity (CI)
When VRdirect was founded in 2018, its initial color palette consisted of dark and gray-blue-purple tones, which in some contexts appeared overly somber or even dull. To present the brand in a fresher and more modern light, we revamped the color scheme and applied the updated design across all touchpoints, including the website, VRdirect Studio (software), and print materials.

As part of this transformation, the gray-blue-purple hues were replaced with a cleaner and more vibrant blue. Why blue? Blue evokes a sense of openness and infinite space, much like the sea and the sky—exactly the feeling we aim to create when experiencing a virtual reality project. The accent color also shifted from a dark magenta to a dynamic coral hue, further enhancing the brand’s modern and approachable image.

The goal was to subtly modernize the existing colors while maintaining the brand’s recognition among our customers. This thoughtful evolution has enabled VRdirect to communicate its innovative spirit and align its visual identity with the immersive and expansive nature of its technology.

3. Developing the VRdirect Visual Language
To present VRdirect—a purely technical product—in a more approachable and relatable way, I created a new visual language that conveys a sense of human warmth. This imagery draws on soft blue tones as a foundational element, complemented by carefully placed coral accents to highlight the virtual reality components, resulting in a modern, vibrant overall appearance.

In designing this visual concept, I focused on three key thematic areas:
1. Human Interaction: Images featuring people from a variety of fields easily creating VR projects using the VRdirect Studio software on their laptops or computers. Subtle VR devices in the background help establish the technology’s context.

2. Versatile Device Compatibility: Visuals that demonstrate on which end-devices (from VR headsets to smartphones) users can experience VR projects created with VRdirect Studio. This emphasizes the product’s flexibility and broad applicability.

3. Application-Oriented Scenarios: Scenes illustrating tangible use cases for virtual reality projects. Here, the coral accents come into play, highlighting interactive elements and making the VR experience more intuitive and easier to understand.

With this newly developed visual language, VRdirect combines its technological expertise with an inviting, aesthetic quality that resonates with both customers and prospects, providing them with an inspiring VR experience.

4. Relaunch of the VRdirect Website
In collaboration with the agency Medienstürmer, we completely reorganized the VRdirect website and gave it a fresh design. During the transition from HubSpot CMS to WordPress, we took the opportunity to integrate the new design elements.

5. Expansion of the VRdirect YouTube Channel
During my time at VRdirect, I enhanced my skills in Adobe After Effects and created numerous videos – from tutorials and screencasts to onboarding and marketing videos. All content on the YouTube channel was conceptualized and produced by me, with a cohesive design that clearly associates each video with its respective playlist.

6. Design and Production of Digital Marketing Assets for Social Media and Ad Campaigns
I was fully involved in every stage of the marketing and advertising process, overseeing the conception, design, and execution of all required imagery. This included graphics for social media, landing pages, newsletters, and ad campaigns, ensuring a cohesive brand presence across all digital channels.

7. First Experience with Virtual Reality Technology and AI
I gained my first hands-on experience with Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence at VRdirect GmbH, where I strategically used these technologies as storytelling tools to deliver immersive content. My primary focus was on developing small VR projects for creating tutorials that clearly explain the key features of the VRdirect Studio software, aiming to enhance user engagement and retention.
